A Man, Part 3
Meeting his wife was easy. She lived next door.
They walked to elementary school, junior high
and high school together. Then college.
They played Bridge, went to concerts and museums.
They took trips and read the Great Books.
They were married twenty-five years.
Then she got cancer, and in six weeks she was dead.
Now he sat on the porch.
We had a good life together, he told the dog.
But if I could do it over again,
I would have let her have the child
she wanted.
