I wasn’t able
to look
at your face
when you died.
Instead,
I sat beside your
torn-out eyes
imagining
you could see
me
wonder
who I am
without
you.

Oh, Idore... thanks for sharing this with me. Esther
A missing sister ... is sort of like not having something that was always once just a part of you - I took it so for granted - when it's gone you're not even sure exactly where it hurts. This really speaks for me.
I think I must keep myself numb so I won't hurt -- except in the poem. Writing is strange, isn't it ... or is it the writer?
I share your sentiments about the loss of your sister having lost both my brother and sister too early. Unfortunately, I'm not able to express my feelings so eloquently, I also unknowingly squandered so much precious time that I had with both siblings. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Dear Carol
You can write too. Just put the word Sister on top of a sheet of paper, take a pen or pencil and free associate on the page. You'll be amazed at what comes out and, no doubt, pleased.
Writerly yours,
Esther
